A project in collaboration with Nike, presenting the Nike Waffle One sneakers.
I designed “The Waffle Shoe Sole Machine” inspired by Bill Bowerman innovative invention.
Nike’s first shoe, created in 1972, had a sole made using a waffle iron. The company’s founder, Bill Bowerman used his waffle iron to make grooves on the sole to provide a better grip when running.
The machine's dual functionality is particularly noteworthy; it's not only capable of producing the iconic waffle-patterned shoe soles, but it can also craft outsoles for sneakers. This versatility aligns perfectly with Nike's dedication to pushing boundaries in design and manufacturing, reflecting the brand's ongoing mission to reimagine the world of athletic footwear.
However, this collaboration reaches far beyond just the realm of sneakers. It encapsulates a story that resona- tes with the enduring spirit of Nike, a spirit characterized by breaking boundaries, challenging norms, and continuously pushing the envelope of what's possible. In a world increasingly concerned with sustainability, my project makes a profound statement about the importance of repurposing e-waste, making it both relevant and engaging.
